LEAP’s Impact in Belize

In May 2010, LEAP simultaneously sent large medical teams to both Haiti and Belize.  LEAP has been providing reconstructive surgical services in Belize for 15 years. While the main focus in Belize remains children born with facial deformities, LEAP has diversified to meet the needs in this country which has no plastic surgeons of its own.  LEAP provides eye correction surgery, hand correction surgery, burn reconstruction, ocular prosthesis, and helped start an indigenous limb prosthetic program.  LEAP will continue to return to Belize on an annual basis and is developing an in-country database and an internet evaluation program.
