LEAP to welcome Logan through the Landmark Fund

We are blessed to operate on this beautiful little boy from China! We will bring this little boy to Medical City this year, sponsored through our Landmark Fund.

Hear from the organization China Little Flower about Logan:

Baby Logan (Zhang Qing Long) is a little boy with a big bilateral cleft, hypertelorism and some respiratory issues. He was born on October 26, 2009 and abandoned shortly after that. He was sent to a Love Without Boundaries Cleft Healing Home when he was about three weeks old, but did not do well there. He was severe FTT (failure to thrive) and had frequent respiratory infections. Love Without Boundaries made the very difficult decision to give up on him and asked us to accept him for palliative care when he was 11 months old. They did not expect him to survive. He arrived here at China Little Flower in late Sept 2010 weighing just 4 kg (about 9 lbs).

We suspected his respiratory problems were related to chronic aspiration. We thought about stopping all oral feeds and using only NG tube feeds for a while, but never actually tried it; he appears to feed well, enjoys it, and we worried about oral aversions and feeding issues later on if we did. He has been generally well and gaining weight (about 6.5 kg now), but still has frequent fevers and lower O2 stats (often in the upper 80′s).

We will keep you updated upon his arrival, read about China Little Flower and the work they are doing at www.chinalittleflower.org
