Randy Trawnik lost his eye as a youth and has dedicated his adult life to making prosthetic eyes for others with similar conditions. The artistry and precision of Randy’s work is incredible. Randy, working as a LEAP volunteer, has helped transform eye care in the Dominican Republic. By sharing his skills and donating supplies, Randy has enabled local specialists to make prosthetic eyes on a routine basis in the Dominican Republic.
When Randy and his son, John, volunteered to go with LEAP to Belize, we worried there would not be enough time to get the word out about his specialty. A young Mennonite man showed up late one Friday night missing a right eye. Randy began working on it immediately and continued well into the night. When the young man returned that next morning, Randy was able to fit him with a beautiful prosthetic eye. The timing was all God’s as the young man arrived for his wedding later that day. For the first time, friends, family, and his bride-to-be, saw him with two normal appearing eyes.
